TransPacific Partnership (TPP) Fast Track Vote Imminent – Huge Medicare Cuts Snuck Into TPP

ALERT! Beware: the TransPacific Partnership (TPP) could be Fast Tracked into reality while not
enough of us are watching. The TPP is only the biggest trade deal EVER concocted in the history
of the world! Involving 792 million people and 38% of the world’s economic activity. Includes
the USA, Japan, Canada, Mexico, 12 Pacific Rim countries in total, plus China, India, Russia
are welcome to join in. But the television and radio networks and media in general are not
reporting anything significant about it to YOU! Here are two urgent emails I am sharing with
you with comments, the first from Food Democracy Now! and the 2nd from Democracy For America
about a huge cut in Medicare that has just been snuck into the TPP: [By the way, the TPP
has not been finished, anything can be written into it AFTER Fast Track is approved, and
signing nations have pledged to keep the text secret for 4 years after it is signed !!}

REMEMBER THAT ~90% OF AMERICANS IN POLL AFTER POLL, STATE THEY WANT GMOs (Genetically Modified
Organisms) to be labeled! As they are in 64 countries already, including China! and Europe.

Food Democracy Now May 14, 2015 email goes like this:

This is not a drill. This is as serious as it gets.

BREAKING: Senate VOTES TODAY ON TPP FAST TRACK – TAKE ACTION NOW! [House of Representatives is next...]

Today the bipartisan selling out of America has begun. If the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) Fast Track passes,
it will make GMO labeling illegal and outlaw the passage of bans on Monsanto’s cancer-causing weedkiller Roundup.

Late yesterday afternoon, Senate Democrats cut a deal with Republicans on approving the Fast Track of what
we’re calling Monsanto’s secret trade agreement, one of the most disastrous trade deal ever written. According
to the New York Times, if approved, this current agreement gives Congress “the power to vote on the
Trans-Pacific Partnership once it is completed, but lawmakers could not amend it”.

Already last month, the Senate Finance Committee passed the first step to Fast Track when it passed
the Trade Provision Authority (TPA) by a wide bipartisan 20 to 6 votes and the House Ways and Means
Committee voted 25 to 13 days later. Voting the trade agreement out of these important committees
means the only thing left is a floor vote of the House and Senate, which begins voting on fast track
approval this afternoon.

Not surprisingly, members of the Senate Finance Committee received more than $236 million in corporate
donations in 2014 alone. That sounds like a nice down payment on a new trade agreement! What do you
think those corporations were trying to buy?

This is urgent! Make sure to call your Senators and Representatives today! [via 202-224-3121 to reach all of them.]

1. Sign the petition to send President Obama and Congress an urgent message – tell them it’s time
to stop working behind closed doors. Don’t let our democratic rights be stolen by secret trade
agreements. Every voice counts!
2. Then, (more important) Please Conrad take 30 seconds to call your Senators and member of Congress
today and Tell them to Vote NO on Monsanto’s Secret Trade Deal, which will make GMO labeling illegal.

http://action.fooddemocracynow.org/call/stop_Fast_Track_Monsantos_Secret_Trade_Deal/?t=9&akid=1561.1013216.__NLld

If the fast track is approved, it gives the President alone the full authority to negotiate the trade agreement,
which most members of Congress have still not even been allowed to read. The trade agreement is so secret that
no drafts have been published anywhere, and even Senators and their staffers who read the bill are not allowed
to take notes on the trade agreement out of the room. Why the secrecy?

The real point of these “free trade” agreements is to allow for a free flow of commodities, intellectual property,
pharmaceuticals, pesticides and GMOs around the world, not protect the American people. [Of the 29 chapters
of the TPP, only 5 are about trade and tariffs, the rest, ‘the other 24 chapters,
consist of various ways to ‘FREE’ rapacious corporations from any accountability for the havoc they wreak and from any responsibility to the world community’s common good.’ - states Jim Hightower in The Lowdown Jan 2015 issue.]

The Monsanto Clause – Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) Provision – Monsanto’s Get out of Jail Free Card:

Most Americans are rightfully suspicious of the current trade deals because past promises of job creation have
created the opposite, helping hollow out the American middle class and these trade agreements contain language
that erode basic representative democracy. [It is estimated the TPP will cost the USA over 2 million more jobs;
past trade agreements over past 2 decades, including NAFTA, have been estimated to already have lost over
4 Million USA jobs (4,000,000 USA jobs) so far.]

Unfortunately, due to a little-known provision called “investor-state dispute settlement,” (ISDS) “corporations
could rise to the level of nations and be empowered to sue governments directly over environmental protections
that they claim might hurt their profits.”

This makes the Fast Track for the TPP and TTIP essentially a Get Out of Jail Free card for Monsanto and
other corporate polluters and we need your help to stop it from overriding America’s laws.

That’s right, if a city, state or country passed an environmental, labor or consumer safety protection law,
like a ban on fracking or restrictions on chemical or pesticide use, all a multinational corporation has
to do is sue under the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) provision to regain lost profits [actually
termed 'expected future profits.']
[Remember that corporations win >90% of challenges in these secretly conducted trade courts, as per
NAFTA & WTO trade courts.]

Independent analysis of the TPP has confirmed that this secret trade agreement would be like a
global Monsanto Protection Act on steroids, but for multiple industries, basically giving
complete freedom for corporations to overwrite democratically written laws in independent
nations and allowing giant corporations to sue nations if they believe a law passed by their
elected officials potentially harms or limits corporate profits on highly dubious products
like GMOs and pesticides and harmful practices like fracking. [or net neutrality, zoning laws,
preferential govt procurement as in Buy American or Buy Local or Buy Austin or Buy California]

Buy Austin, Buy Local[/caption]

Make no doubt about it, this is the greatest assault on democratic freedom that we have
witnessed by out of control corporate lobbyists and their front groups.
Already ExxonMobil and Chevron have used similar rules in other trade deals to initiate
more than 500 lawsuits against 95 governments.

TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress “Not so fast!! Vote NO on the TPP FAST TRACK!
Fast Track is the Intentional Bipartisan Gutting of GMO Labeling in the U.S.
and Around the Globe

Don’t Fast Track TPP
Tell Your Congressperson[/caption]

At the moment, none of the trade agreement documents have been released to
the public, but what we know about past trade deals and the Investor State
Dispute Settlement (ISDS) provision look tame compared to the language that is
actually contained in TPA which passed the Senate Finance Committee last month.
It’s being called the “Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability
Act of 2015.” But what it really is, is the global Monsanto Protection Act on steroids.
What the current agreement really means is that the world MUST adopt Monsanto’s Rules
on “Science” – i.e. GMOs and their Cancer Causing Roundup are Safe!
If you think we’re kidding, consider the language pulled from the initial language of the
bipartisan Fast Track agreement below. Page 6 of the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities
and Accountability Act of 2015 for the agricultural section states:

(i) “encourage the adoption of international standards and require a science-based justification
be provided for a…measure if the measure is more restrictive than the applicable international standard.”
(ii) improve regulatory coherence, promote the use of systems-based approaches , and appropriately
recognize the equivalence of health and safety protection systems of exporting countries;

Translation: The U.S. government and Monsanto says GMOs and the cancer-causing Roundup are perfectly safe.
Your government, city, state or county can do NOTHING to stop Monsanto, DuPont or Dow Chemical from
IMPORTING GMOs or their toxic chemicals, even if your state, city or county has passed a ban prohibiting them.

The agreement goes on to say that all countries must implement trade measures “based on risk assessments that
take into account relevant international guidelines and scientific data, and are not more restrictive on trade
than necessary to meet the intended purpose.”
The question is who decides which international guidelines and scientific data are safe and accurate? When the
world’s leading cancer review agency recently declared glyphosate (Round-Up) to probably a cancer causing pesticide,
Monsanto demanded a retraction!

The Monsanto Kicker: Death to GMO Labeling and Pesticide Bans Around the World! [Denmark banned Round-Up
a few years ago. Round-Up's glyphosate is known to cross the placenta and thus could endanger the fetus in the womb.]

On page 9 of the Bipartisan Sellout agreement, it becomes very clear what the purpose of the trade agreement
really is, claiming that its intent is to “eliminate practices that unfairly decrease”… “market access
opportunities or distort agricultural markets to the detriment of the United States”.
Bans on GMOs and toxic pesticides will be challenged and most likely overturned in the secretive
tribunal process under the Investor State Dispute Settlement provision.
On page 9 the White House and Congress Declares GMO Labeling is an “Unjustified Trade Restriction”:
(ii) unjustified trade restrictions or commercial requirements, such as labeling, that affect new
technologies, including biotechnology.
(iii) unjustified…restrictions, including restrictions not based on scientific principles”

It’s no wonder the White House and the more than 600 corporate lobbyists who have written
this deal behind closed doors for the past 5 years are so desperate to keep it secret. If
the American people could read the text in full, there’d be a revolt and Monsanto and corporate America knows it.
Trust us, there’s more, but we could only fit so much in one email!
If you eat and care about GMO labeling and stopping Monsanto, Please make sure you forward this
email to all your friends and family and make sure they call their Senators today! 202-224-3121
Click here if you believe in GMO labeling and think that secret trade deals to kill common
sense laws on genetically engineered crops should be stopped! Every voice counts!

I have spoken with a few Congressional offices, and have found that many of them said Congressional
offices of Representatives and Senators may have a copy of the TPP text.
Not sure if that is true, but that is what they say. Too bad they’re not allowed to talk about
it with their constituents: us, the American People. Because it has been ‘classified.’

But then Ron Kirk, Obama’s Trade Representative from 2009-2013, said that the TPP has to be kept secret, or
Americans would be outraged (if they saw it) and it would never pass. See my 12″ video on youtube on the
conradmillermd channel on the TPP:

On Saturday, May 16, 2015, Charles Chamberlain told DFA (Democracy For America) members in the
email below that there is a huge new cut to Medicare in the Fast Track bill for the Trans-Pacific
Partnership. This is from his email of May 18, 2015:

The bill would slash $700 million from Medicare, hurting seniors and others who need health care,
in order to help pass a trade deal that is expected to destroy thousands of American jobs.

The Senate is going to be voting very shortly on the Fast Track bill. We need to let them know we
don’t want Fast Track, we don’t want the TPP — and we definitely do not want them to cut Medicare.

Thousands of DFA members signed our petition to the Senate this weekend. Can you join them? Sign
the petition and tell Senators to reject Medicare cuts and reject Fast Track for the TPP.

Thank you for defending Medicare.

Subject: BREAKING: Big Medicare cuts in the TPP deal

Conrad –

I didn’t think it was possible — but the Trans-Pacific Partnership just got a lot worse.

There’s a big — brand new — attack on Medicare that’s just been added in the Senate
to the Fast Track bill for the TPP. The bill would cut a whopping $700 million from Medicare,
hurting seniors who need access to health care.

That’s right, Republicans insisted on cutting Medicare spending to pay for a
Trade Adjustment Assistance program that Democrats got added to the bill in order
to support workers who lost their jobs due to trade deals like the TPP.

This is ridiculous. If Senators are concerned about the impact of the TPP on jobs,
then they should reject the the Fast Track bill that makes it possible — especially
if the plan to pay for it comes out of the pockets of seniors who rely on Medicare to survive.

The Senate is about to vote again on Fast Track for the TPP. President Obama is pressuring
Democrats to vote for it, even with this cut to Medicare. We have just a few days to stop them.

Sign our petition: Tell the Senate to protect Medicare, protect jobs, and reject Fast Track for the TPP.

Medicare is already under threat from Republican budget cuts. This $700 million cut would make matters
much worse.

This new cut would erode Medicare’s capacity to ensure seniors and others have access
to medical services. It pits Americans who need assistance because of a trade deal
that cost them their job against Americans who need Medicare.

We stopped the Fast Track bill a few days ago in the Senate. Now Democrats are coming
under intense pressure from big corporations and the White House to reverse their
position and back this bad deal. Now is the time to stand up and stop this attack on
Medicare and on jobs.

Sign the petition: Tell Senators to reject Medicare cuts and reject Fast Track for the TPP.
[And/or call your Senators and Representatives via 202-224-3121]
Thank you for taking a stand to protect Medicare.
